AROTA Strategic Plan 2025–2030

AROTA’s strategic plan guides our work to strengthen membership, support students and practitioners, expand professional development, advance advocacy, reimagine events, improve communication, and promote equity, access, and community partnerships.

Goal 01

Strengthen Membership & Engagement

Increase membership recruitment, retention, and engagement through clearer benefits communication, accessible CEU opportunities, and diverse pathways for involvement.

Key Objectives

  • Increase membership by 5% each year, aiming for 25% growth by 2030.
  • Launch a redesigned, user-friendly website by December 2026.
  • Create new volunteer and micro-volunteer opportunities each year.
  • Develop a leadership pipeline and strengthen committee participation.
Goal 02

Support Students and Early-Career Practitioners

Create seamless pathways from student to professional membership through mentorship, reduced-rate memberships, auto-renewals, and incentives.

Key Objectives

  • Implement a reduced-rate new graduate membership and auto-renew system.
  • Establish student representatives on all committees.
  • Host transition-to-practice events including panels, networking, and virtual Q&As.
  • Develop a mentorship platform connecting students and early-career practitioners with experienced OTs.
Goal 03

Enhance Member Services & Professional Development

Expand continuing education offerings and professional support to meet changing member needs across practice areas and regions.

Key Objectives

  • Increase CEU offerings and expand hybrid or rural-accessible formats.
  • Introduce new professional tools, such as toolkits, NBCOT prep, and recognition badges.
  • Launch and expand Special Interest Groups.
  • Partner with ASPIRE to deliver accessible OT-specific continuing education.
Goal 04

Advance Advocacy & Legislative Impact

Strengthen advocacy efforts around licensure, reimbursement, recognition of occupational therapy, and policy issues affecting practitioners and clients.

Key Objectives

  • Publish quarterly advocacy updates through newsletters, podcasts, or social media.
  • Organize an annual OT Hill Day with participation from every district.
  • Build new state and national advocacy partnerships.
  • Explore practice act updates, board separation, and recognition of OT’s role in mental health.

Reimagine Conferences & Events

Expand conferences and events to increase accessibility, engagement, professional growth, and statewide connection.

Key Objectives

  • Offer hybrid or regional conference opportunities to reach rural practitioners.
  • Introduce student-specific programming at annual conferences.
  • Create structured post-conference feedback and satisfaction tracking.
Goal 06

Improve Communication & Public Outreach

Develop clear, compelling communication of membership benefits and advocacy impact while expanding outreach to broader communities.

Key Objectives

  • Redesign communication strategy with segmented email lists.
  • Launch AROTA’s presence on new platforms such as TikTok, podcasts, YouTube, or Instagram Reels.
  • Publish quarterly impact reports highlighting membership value and advocacy wins.
  • Strengthen outreach to prospective OT students and community partners.
Goal 07

Promote Equity, Access, & Community Partnerships

Ensure all members and communities are represented, supported, and connected through AROTA.

Key Objectives

  • Create a Rural Practitioner Support Program.
  • Partner with community organizations to highlight OT’s role in public health.
  • Secure corporate sponsorships to reduce financial barriers for practitioners.
  • Develop an equity and inclusion statement with an action plan and annual progress reviews.
